Social Media Specialist

Location: Playtonic Burton (Hybrid)
Reports to: Publishing Manager

Employment Type: Full-time / Contract

Who We’re Looking For

Playtonic is looking for a passionate and data-driven Social Media Specialist to lead and execute our social media strategy, day in and day out. You’ll be the person behind the posts — not just pressing publish, but crafting content that delivers, scheduling with precision, analysing with care, and iterating with energy. Your job is to make sure our content hits the right beats, at the right time, on the right platforms and sparks action; views, likes, shares, wishlists, and ultimately, sales.

You don’t need to have a background in video games — but you do need to love social media and be obsessed with the numbers that matter. You’re already on top of the latest trends on TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Threads, Twitter/X, and Facebook. You’ll spot what’s working in the industry (and outside of it), and you’ll turn that insight into smart, scroll-stopping creative that elevates our games and our studio voice.

This role is not about managing people — it’s about owning the results. You’ll have clear KPIs, be responsible for meeting them, and be supported to do your best work.

 Key Responsibilities

Daily / Weekly / Monthly Tasks

Content Creation & Scheduling

  • Plan and schedule posts across all relevant platforms, using native tools or scheduling software (e.g., Sprout, Later, Buffer, Hootsuite).
  • Write engaging, platform-appropriate copy that reflects the Playtonic tone of voice.
  • Capture and edit gameplay footage and behind-the-scenes content for short-form and long-form formats.
  • Design simple visual assets using tools like Canva, Adobe Express, or Photoshop (advanced motion design support can be briefed externally if needed).
  • Proactively maintain a rolling queue of content to ensure consistency and maximise reach.
  • Ensure all content aligns with platform best practices and current trends.

Data & Analytics

  • Monitor and analyse content performance using tools like Meta Business Suite, YouTube Analytics, Twitter Analytics, and TikTok insights.
  • Report weekly on KPIs (see below) and suggest actionable optimisations based on insights.
  • Conduct competitive audits and share learnings with the wider team.

 Community Engagement

  • Respond to community comments and messages with professionalism and personality.
  • Build relationships with superfans and micro-influencers.

Campaign Ownership

  • Plan and execute content campaigns aligned to game milestones, especially leading up to and beyond the launch of Yooka-Replaylee.
  • Develop mini-campaigns within broader beats (e.g., character reveals, nostalgia moments, dev diaries).
  • Manage small budgets for paid boosting and test-and-learn advertising.
  • Collaborate closely with PR, brand, and product teams to align messaging and timing.

KPIs & Outcomes

Your performance will be measured on the following KPIs:

Metric Weekly Focus Longer-Term Target
Wishlist Growth % increase and cost-per-wishlist (if paid) Achieve wishlist trajectory to hit launch goals
Engagement Rate % per post/platform Grow average engagement to 3–5% across key platforms
Video Views Total and per-post Build sustained momentum for each game asset
Community Growth Followers/subscribers Build quality communities that engage regularly

Required Skills & Experience

  • 2+ years of hands-on experience managing social media accounts across multiple platforms.
  • Proven track record of growing audiences and driving engagement through short-form and video content.
  • Strong writing skills — able to adapt tone for each platform and stay true to a brand voice.
  • Basic video editing (e.g., CapCut, Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, etc.) and experience capturing gameplay footage.
  • Comfortable with data and translating analytics into clear actions.
  • Strong organisational and scheduling skills.
  • Passionate about social media and digital storytelling.
  • Self-motivated, eager to experiment, and always learning.

What Success Looks Like

By the end of your first 6 months, success will look like:

  • Wishlist trajectory significantly improved
  • Social platforms growing in engagement and size
  • A clear cadence of content tied to game beats
  • Strong alignment with community voice and player sentiment
  • You being our go-to expert for what’s working — and what’s next

Final Word

We’re looking for someone who doesn’t just work in social media — they live it. You love crafting content, tracking performance, and making people click that wishlist button. If you’ve been waiting for a role where your creativity, strategy, and energy can really shine — this is it.
